CAM STRACHAN is a natural born abalone diver who spent a reckless youth poaching the precious sea snails in Northern Tasmania, before he was rescued from a life of crime by love. Cam’s marriage to the love-of-his-life and the daughters they have together keeps him on the straight-and-narrow. He does the right thing, holds down a respectable job as a manager at a fish-processors — all the time suppressing his inner frustrations. For years Cam ignores the pressures from his younger brother, urging him to resume his poaching career. 

But when Cam’s wife and children are taken from him by a tragedy, something inside Cam breaks. 

With his brother at his side and no fear of death, Cam begins poaching the hugely valuable molluscs again. Diving deeper than ever in shark- infested waters quickly turns him into a folk-hero with a loyal following of misfits. As demand increases from the Chinese market, abalone prices sky-rocket and Cam’s poaching operations escalate to huge proportions, transforming him into a powerful gang boss with a price on his head… But no amount of money will bring Cam peace as he hurtles towards a full scale war with the authorities, with God and with himself…
